May 2010

Jim Gaffney gave a very interesting talk to members on Saturday 10th May 2010 on batik in Java. He and his wife, Diane travel around the world collecting and buying handmade fabrics.

He gave a very interesting talk about how he became interested in batik and went on to explain how they produce the batik in Java. His talk was supported with some wonderful sldies. He also brought along a variety of new and old fabrics, for members to see and handle, and to demonstrate the wide range of designs that can be achieved applying the wax either by stamping or by hand. Jim also offers workshops either at his studio or will come and visit a group. If you want to know more try his website: www.textiletechniques.co.uk
